WHERE CAN I PICKUP MY CSA SHARE?

WHAT IS A CSA?

COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE

is a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food straight from the farmer who grows it.  Members receive their produce on a  prearranged schedule for their membership fee.  The farm offers a certain number of "shares" of the farm’s bounty for sale at the beginning of the season. Interested consumers purchase a share, and in return receive a box of seasonal produce each week.

IT IS SO MUCH MORE THAN A BOX OF VEGETABLES

Learn more about the CSA - video by Red Vault Productions

Community supported agriculture is a relationship between you, your farmer, and your food - the foundation of your health. The seeds you help us purchase in February will grow into the food you put on your table every week, for half the year.
— Sang Lee Farms

. MAke a Commitment to your health .
. Garner a Relationship with your farmer and your food that is more direct.
. We will grow safe, healthy, and tasty food for you and your family.

In your committed CSA relationship with us, just as in any committed relationship, you take the good with the bad - the amazing flavor with the imperfect visual appearance. And in the end, you will understand that in order to truly support Organic Farming and local seasonal eating, there are some differences from the way you may be used to eating from the supermarkets, or other conventional growers. To help educate new members, we created a HOW TO on being a CSA member.

WHAT are the benefits?

FARMER

STARTUP COSTS
seeds, fertilizer, equipment, supplies & staff

PLANNING
so that the right amount of produce is available for the season, and there is not too much or too little.

DIRECT RELATIONSHIP
The CSA is a unique economic relationship, a partnership between consumers and a farmer. Consumers contract, or sign an understanding, with farmers before the growing season begins, and agree to share the risks and rewards of growing food.

The healthiest meals are those cooked at home. When you pickup your first share, the beautiful fresh vegetables will inspire you to get more creative with your cooking. There will be a shift from following & shopping for recipes to CREATING them yourself!

CONSUMER

FRESHNESS
It's pretty hard to beat local organic vegetables straight from the fields to your hands in less than 48 hours. You will taste the flavor difference from this short transport time

VARIETY
Hundreds of different varieties of vegetables will inspire you to try new things, taste new flavors, and share them with the family

COMMUNITY
Deepen your connection to the roots of your food. Eat food that is grown in your local area, and learn about the farm and farmer in the process. Visit the farm and take a tour for free.

VALUE
It's simple - less is more! Spend less and get more in quality and in flavor. Last year members paid $585 and received $850 worth of vegetables (based on retail prices)

*Members picking up at farm/markets get 10% off purchases

EDUCATION
We send a weekly newsletter with storage tips, recipe suggestions, a farmers note and photos from the farm. Learn about how your food grows and all about Organic farming.

"For months I had heard talk of something called the Sang Lee CSA and it involved fresh ORGANIC veggies.... Sparking my interest I inquired and immediately joined the next round.  This was 5 or 6 years ago. I'm addicted! I'm a Year-Round Member!  And I'm proud to say that with few exceptions; my beautiful baby girl Marlena is a Sang Lee Only Baby! Her very first food were Sang Lee orange carrots. We are so lucky to have this available to us. The difference is undeniable.   My family is so grateful for the hard work of everyone involved at the farm. Their hard work truly shows. And then there is the special staff in the kitchen that whips up all of these amazing goodies and extras. it's all so wonderful you just have to try them all! "

- Antoinette Piazza ,Westhampton Beach CSA

"I have been a member of CSAs for over 15 years.. this will be my 3rd year with Sang Lee (I took last year off and just bought from the stand in Northport). What I like most about Sang Lee CSA is the wide variety-there are items that I couldn’t even get from your farmer’s market stand last year but I remember being in the CSA packs. The health benefits are amazing-I have had an autoimmune disease for 32 years, but since going organic and reducing processed foods, I’ve gone from 6 medications down to 1! What you eat truly does make a difference-Hippocrates was right! Keep growing great food! Thank you farmers..."

Some Additional Thoughts

Your participation in the program helps to ensure that our farm remains a viable and vital part of our food source for our community here on the north fork of LI and beyond.  You are contributing to a lower fossil fuel imprint by eating locally.  You are supporting responsible care of our water supply as well as responsible stewardship of our soil and land.

We ask you therefore, to please pay close attention to the scheduled times. It is the CSA member's responsibility to pick up his/her share on the designated day.  We will donate all shares that are not picked up to a local food pantry.  If you are away you can request that your share be donated, or you can ask a friend or family member to pick up your share instead. In this way, we share the good food with others who may need it, enjoy it and who can also learn about this wonderful way of eating.
