Early Summer Field Activities
|
Our first field transplants of Tomatoes, Squash, Lettuces, Bulb Onions, Baby Bok Choy and Sweet Potatoes have been planted! Yup, you read that last item right. I did a trial planting in 2008 and was so thrilled with the results that we have several thousand plants on order waiting to be planted. Our other transplants of peppers and eggplants are ready to go into the ground too. Fingerling Potatoes and Leeks have been planted in our new field in Southold, located on the Peconic Land Trust's Charnews Farm, and are off to a great start.
We will continue with our succession plantings of many of these varieties to insure a continuous supply of great vegetables through out the summer. With the warmer evening temperatures, our greenhouse heaters have been shut off during the evenings. (Can you see me smiling about that?) We still have thousands of plants waiting for their ride out into the field for their chance in the sun.
As some of our CSA members have seen on our member's tour earlier this month, we still have hundreds of plug flats to grow out and complete. For the 2009 season, we have many new variety trials planned. This year we hope to expand the offering of vegetable varieties we have for both CSA members and at the Farmer's Markets that we attend.
We look forward to seeing you all when you stop by.
"ORGANICALLY GROWN"
|
We are proud to tell you that we grow all of our vegetables, herbs and flowers here at Sang Lee Farms Organically. It has been a gradual transition for us, having grown conventionally for the wholesale markets for over 50 years. We are now certified for organic vegetable production by NOFA-NY Ceritified Organic, LLC.
In our efforts to provide the highest quality product for our customers and neighbors, we made a commitment to the organic process. We have found the quality and flavor of our produce to be superior as a result.
It is this superior flavor, texture and quality which we will continue to strive for in all our products. Our hope is that our customers can enjoy this food we grow and celebrate its freshness when sharing meals with family and friends.
With all this great taste you may find yourself reaching for a second helping, And in eating lots of veggies you may even feel renewed energy and a sense of well-being. So take advantage of all we have to offer.
You may also like to sample our line of dressings, pestos, sauces and dips. We have developed them to compliment our fresh produce using our own products whenever possible. We make them with the same commitment to quality and excellence using only the freshest ingredients. We'll be adding a few more delicious sauces this year, so watch for details!
